Creating a Social Media Strategy That Works

Hi, I'm Jen from Starchelle Communications. Welcome back! Today, we're talking about creating a social media strategy that takes the guesswork out of your marketing. Whether you're just starting out or refining your approach, having a clear strategy will help you achieve consistent and effective results.

Setting Clear Goals

Before you post anything, define what success looks like for you. Are you growing your email list? Booking more calls? Increasing engagement? Choose specific, measurable goals so you can track progress and adjust your strategy as needed.

Understanding Your Audience

One of the best ways to create engaging content is to know your audience inside and out. Build a detailed profile of your ideal client—where they hang out online, what they’re searching for, and the type of content they engage with. When you understand their needs, it becomes much easier to create content that resonates.

Organising Your Content

Creating content is easier when you have a plan. Use content categories (also called pillars) to guide your posts. These could include:

  • Educational content – Teach your audience something useful.

  • Behind the scenes – Show what happens in your business day-to-day.

  • Client wins – Share success stories and testimonials.

  • About me – Let people get to know you.

  • Services you offer – Highlight what you do and how you help.

Having these categories makes planning and scheduling content much simpler.

Planning & Scheduling Content

Consistency is key when it comes to social media. Instead of scrambling for content daily, map out your posts in advance and stick to a routine.

Handy Tools for Planning & Scheduling

There are some great tools that can help with social media planning:

  • Asana and Trello– Ideal for mapping out your content calendar.

  • Canva – Perfect for creating visually stunning graphics. You can even post directly to Instagram and Facebook from Canva!

  • Buffer, Hootsuite, and Later– Great scheduling tools that allow you to batch your content and automate posting.

  • Meta built-in scheduler – If you primarily use Facebook and Instagram, this is a simple and effective option.

If you find it overwhelming to post daily, start with scheduling just 2-3 posts a week. This ensures consistency while giving you the flexibility to post trending or real-time content when needed.

Engaging with Your Audience

Remember, it’s called social media for a reason! Don’t just post and ghost—engage with your audience. Reply to comments, start conversations, and interact with other accounts. Building relationships is just as important as posting content.
